End of an Era.

The passing of Joe Beltrami marks the end of an era.  Joe founded Beltrami & Company in 1957 and almost immediately rose to prominence as a criminal defence lawyer following his successful involvement in a number of high profile trials.

Joe grafted at the law for more than 50 years until well into his 70s.  As a criminal lawyer he was unique in that he transcended the realms of criminal law, entering the mainstream public consciousness attracting the battle cry “get me Beltrami” for any soul in need of help. He was responsible for fledging many prominent Kings Counsel whose talents he had spotted before others, Fairbairn, Findlay and McBride to name but a few.

Joe liked football, boxing and sport of any type. He was a successful author and regularly corresponded in the press on matters of concern.  He excelled at the top of a profession which at the best of times can be very challenging, commanding the confidence of those who were lucky enough to instruct him.

He had an uncanny ability to pick a winner.  He instinctively grasped how best to present a case, almost immediately.  He earned the respect of those who worked with him and for him and will be sorely missed by the members of this firm and the profession.  Our thoughts and sympathy are with his wife and family.

They should feel rightly proud.
