Chess is much like law

Queens Park Chess Club announces 2022/23 sponsor – Beltrami & Co. Solicitors.

The sponsorship agreement aligns Queens Park Chess Club with counterparts in other European cities, such as London and Vienna, where formal links between legal practices and chess clubs are common. It enables Queens Park to meet the needs of current and future members for the 2022/23 season, running to 31 May 2023. The season will now feature a branded Beltrami Club Championship – a high-profile five round classical tournament using Swiss pairings, with results graded and published nationally by Chess Scotland.

Gary McAteer, Senior Advocate with Beltrami & Co. said: “There are strong parallels between the law and chess, with commonalities around strategic planning, strong preparation, patience and thoughtful deliberation. We are proud to associate ourselves with the game, and to support the further development of Queens Park Chess Club, which is doing great things for the local community.”

Derek Rankine, Chess Club Secretary, said: “We are delighted to have the support of prestigious law firm Beltrami & Co. for the new season. It is no secret that we are undergoing rapid growth; the agreement will greatly help us to manage this growth, and to provide even more opportunities to connect local people through the game.”

Alex Lane, Chess Club Tournament Controller, said: “Our main tournament will be enhanced considerably by the support of our new sponsor. The 2022/23 Beltrami Queens Park Club Championship will be even more highly contested now that we have additional resources to award an engraved trophy to the winner.”
